Rendezvous 2011

Here are some pictures from Rendezvous in Fargo.  Many thanks to the British Iron Society for putting on  a great event.  The Bonnie & Clyde Funkhana was most entertaining, a good mix of challenge and fun.  The Don Carlson Memorial Car Show had a very interesting variety of makes and models, and the beautiful weather brought out many of the locals to see the show.  Jon Block won a trophy for his Sprite.

Photos from Clark's Turbine Tech Session At Bearskin

Here are some photos from the Tech Session put on by Clark Blumberg at his Turbine shop at Bearskin Airlines.  Clark put on a very thorough and interesting session on the operation and maintenance of the Garrett turbine and Pratt and Whitney PT6 turbine engines he works with every day.  The PT6 is of special interest to us car folk, as it is of the same type that was used in the 1967, 1968 STP Indy car.  Much appreciation to Clark and Bearskin for allowing us this great opportunity.

Clark's Turbine Tech Session, March 27th

Hello All,
You are invited to tour the Bearskin Airlines Turbine Shop for an up-close look at how a gas turbine engine operates... Given that we are a Vintage Sports Car Club special emphasis will be on a very special engine, the Pratt and Whitney Canada PT6 free turbine engine as used in the 1967 and '68 Indy STP car. Little do people remember that Pratt and Whitney Canada participated in auto racing! A scale model of the car will be on hand to better relate how this engineering marvel powered this car to lead for the majority of both Indy 500 races...

Given that the Tour will take place in a working airline hanger all participants are asked to meet first at Clark's garage at 743 Porcupine Blvd. at 1pm, park there, and then car pool to Bearskin to stay together as a group on Sunday 27th of March. The tour should be over at approx: 3pm. Best Regards, Clark.

Any one wishing to have a bite to eat before the tour can meet us at Boston Pizza on Arthur at 11.45am.

Chili Buns Tour

Here are a few pictures from the Chili buns tour we ran today.  This is a Social event combined with a little country drive designed to break up the long cold winter.  The bit of snow we had last night made things a little interesting on some of the back roads, but we all made it OK.

Chris and Darleen were the winners of the Trivia Quiz, followed closely by Glen and Donna.  Some of the questions on the quiz were meant to generate conversation, such as what is your dream car.  Others tested your knowledge of sports car trivia.  There were also a few questions  to see if you were paying attention along the route.  Thanks to This Old Barn for Putting on the great Chili Buffet for us.

Welcome to the Blogosphere

This should be a great addition to the club.  All we have to do is learn how to actually use it - teaching an old dog new tricks so to speak.  I will post weekly updates of the TR4 progression - consider this Post 1 of TR4 restoration from Moose Mountain Motors.  A little background info is needed to start - project started by acquiring two 62 solid axle Triumph TR4's - total investment $200 plus some bloody knuckles - didn't hit anybody, just scraped them loading the vehicles on the trailer.  Stripped both cars and determined which chassis looked the most solid to build on - being NWOnt cars neither chassis was great but one had relatively low mileage and was straight - continued to strip both until the chassis was ready to go to the blasters - Clara Industrial did a thorough job for minimal cost - some of the chassis was swiss cheese upon it's return - decided to cut out and replace the worst parts and then cap the main rails of the chassis to strengthen the whole thing - see photos of chassis after repair and primed with epoxy primer -

Stayed tuned for the continuing saga of "A Tale of Two Triumphs".
